Static builds

Our pre-compiled versions of PDFium include only shared/dynamic libraries (.so, .dll, .dylib...), and we don't plan to add static builds in the future.

However, our repository comes with a convenience script to run a local build, and this script supports static builds through the -s flag. For example, for a Linux ARM64 build, run:

./build.sh -s linux arm64

This script reproduces the build steps used in our GitHub workflows, so it is only tested on operating systems used by GitHub-hosted runners (for example Ubuntu), and we don't plan to make this script portable.

Alternatively, you can trigger the reusable workflow build.yml with build_type=static from your own workflow, or fork this repo and start the build-one.yml manually from the Actions tab.

How to use PDFium in a CMake project

  1. Unzip the downloaded package in a folder (e.g., C:\Libraries\pdfium)

  2. Set the environment variable PDFium_DIR to this folder (e.g., C:\Libraries\pdfium)

  3. In your CMakeLists.txt, add

     find_package(PDFium)

  4. Then link your executable with PDFium:

     target_link_libraries(my_exe pdfium)

  5. On Windows, make sure that pdfium.dll can be found by your executable (copy it on the same folder, or put it on the PATH).
